After a recent visit to Vancouver Island, BC last week. I had a chance to try the R2/Yulex and I have to say it’s one to talk about. A quick summery of the suit: extremely flexible, warmth with out the thickness & very light weight ! Pretty much the go to suit when ever I visit waters that are 55-65/F. 12-18/C. Super impresed by this suit. Feels good to know that it could be the start to an environmentally responsable wet suit.
Wetsuits made with Yulex® biorubber that look and feel just like regular suits, and they let you surf just as well as you always have. After 4.5 years of development and testing we’re introducing wetsuits made from guayule (why-YOO-lee), a sustainable plant grown here at home in the United States. Guayule is a renewable non-food crop that uses no pesticides and requires very little water. The plant-based process used to produce guayule rubber is much less toxic than the chemically intensive manufacturing process required to make traditional neoprene. This is a decision that will help shape the direction of an entire industry.
We are releasing this proprietary, game-changing material to the rest of the wetsuit industry. Some people think we’re crazy, but there’s really no other way to go about it. It is our hope that a wider use of this material will allow every manufacturer to play a major part in decreasing the amount of non-renewable, non-biodegradable wetsuit waste that ends up in landfills.
